February is a big month in the world of sports, from skills competitions to international qualifiers – and the game we’ve all been waiting for. As the competition kicks off in Los Angeles, we’re highlighting the critical plays that go into supporting your favorite teams with COVID-19 testing.
Pandemic Sports Playbook: Meet our Teams Backing the Big Game
At the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, it may have been difficult to imagine bringing back sports. As a key player in the pandemic response, BioReference was able to help people safely navigate their communities with the answers they needed. So when it came time for sports leagues to rebound, we were ready to help create the playbook.
Check the Stats
What did the 2021 pandemic sports strategy look like for over 400 professional teams in the U.S.? Check out our top plays from last season:
- Collecting over 1.96 million rapid and lab-based PCR COVID-19 samples from athletes and team personnel
- Deploying more than 450 swabbers and supporting staff dedicated to sports nationwide
- Launching the first large-scale COVID-19 fan testing program in New York – testing over 7,000 fans in time for the game in Buffalo
Off to a strong start in the New Year, our teams on the ground operate over 200 remote testing sites in arenas, stadiums and practice facilities to help keep seasons running at full speed for more than 8 professional leagues. Though BioReference is actively testing athletes in 42 states, this weekend the spotlight falls on California and Ohio.
Representing Cincinnati
Meet our all-stars from the Midwest:
Sashauna M., Area Manager
Though Sashauna holds down COVID-19 testing operations for hockey, baseball and basketball – her football expertise is what has her in the spotlight. Joining the BioReference team in early 2021, Sashauna’s excellent communication skills have made her an integral member of the team from Ohio.
Katey M., Site Lead
Drafted late last year, Katey supports professional Cincinnati teams including soccer, baseball and – of course – football. Katey’s attention to detail and ability to connect with teammates from the COVID-19 testing trailers to medical directors has helped her put points on the board in her rookie season.
On the Ground in Los Angeles
Introducing our all-stars from sunny L.A.:
Susan S., Area Manager
Overseeing COVID-19 testing for teams in the sunshine state since 2020, Susan’s areas of expertise include basketball, baseball and hockey – though football is her favorite. Susan gives a shout out to teammates Rich R. and Kendall W. as they prepare the testing game plan for this weekend’s players, coaches and staff.
Belinda G., Site Lead
A focused football fan, Belinda has been running COVID-19 testing in Los Angeles since mid-2020. This play-caller is an expert at guiding her team – from training swab technique to test order entry – making her a versatile and dependable leader.
Staying on the Ball
No matter who comes out on top Sunday night, our teams are on the ground nationwide, ready to tackle whatever comes downfield next. From history-making postseasons to protocol changes – BioReference is ready to keep powering pandemic sports.
