On June 24, 2022, Carlos Acosta, BioReference’s Senior Director of Strategic Ventures, accepted the Healthcare Champion Advocacy Award from the South Florida Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (SFLHCC). Through an accomplished history across the healthcare spectrum, Carlos brings specialized expertise in providing diagnostic laboratory solutions to healthcare providers that enhance patient care – from single practitioners to large medical groups and hospital systems.
In his current role as a senior executive, Carlos focuses on population health and value-based care initiatives for large integrated healthcare providers such as ACOs and IPAs. During his tenure with BioReference, Carlos has overseen the national expansion of remote lab operations, which has played a key role in positioning BioReference as the third largest clinical specialty laboratory in the United States.
Carlos was instrumental in launching Laboratorio Buena Salud, a division of BioReference dedicated to providing Spanish-speaking communities with quality diagnostic care. Through Laboratorio Buena Salud, BioReference provides services and educational materials to thousands of Spanish-speaking patients in their native language, helping to increase understanding and improve patient outcomes.
Over the course of 25 years, Carlos has enjoyed a successful career establishing and owning multiple healthcare entities, both in the United States and abroad, including Meridian Clinical Laboratory which was acquired by BioReference in 2012. Carlos’ charitable involvement includes youth-related programs at the University of Miami and Glory House, and he is a member of the Board of Directors at the Miami Rescue Mission, The Caring Place and MRM Health Clinics.
Carlos was awarded the Healthcare Champion Advocacy Award from the SFLHCC because of his impact in the region and within the Hispanic community. We congratulate and thank him for his contributions.
