Bob
Marketing Manager, Urology
In honor of Men’s Health Month, we took time to speak with Bob, Marketing Manager of Urology, to get his perspective on the importance of Men’s Health and his personal connection to the cause.
BioReference: What is Men’s Health Month about?
Bob: The purpose of Men’s Health Month is to raise awareness about the general health and wellness of men. One of the key objectives, for men of all ages and their families, is to improve the focus on men’s health by implementing healthy habits.
BioReference: Why is it important to talk about Men’s Health?
Bob: Many men will likely say “sure” or “I think so” when asked if they believe they are healthy. Although certain diseases cannot be entirely prevented, many are preventable or the physical adverse effects of such conditions could be mitigated. The importance and benefits of regular checkups, screening tests, early detection and prevention is so valuable.
According to Harvard Medical School1, compared to women, men are more likely to:
- Smoke and drink
- Make unhealthy or risky choices
- Put off regular checkups and medical care
BioReference: What is your personal connection to this campaign?
Bob: I recently had a major “wake up” moment when one of my friends from high school unexpectedly passed away due to a heart attack. I’m not even 50, but it literally made me look in the mirror and get on the scale. Over the last several weeks I have implemented better lifestyle habits and am already feeling the positive effects. I am also participating in two separate awareness campaigns for Prostate Cancer Foundation and ZERO – The End of Prostate Cancer. It’s not only helping me get healthier, but it also feels good to give back to these patient advocacy organizations.
BioReference: As a subject matter expert in prostate screening/testing, what advice would you recommend your friends and loved ones follow?
Bob: In addition to leading marketing strategies and tactics for the GenPath Urology franchise and The 4Kscore® Test, I also have responsibility for Men’s Health initiatives. My advice is that I believe everyone needs to try and stay focused on their health, both mentally and physically. We all have busy lives and it’s very easy to get distracted. Educate yourself and make decisions that will benefit you and your loved ones.
